After quarterback Tony Romo suffered a broken left clavicle, the Cowboys went out and traded for the Bills QB Matt Cassel, according to Ian Rapoport.

In return, the Cowboys gave away a late-round pick for the 2017 draft. The ironic thing is, the Cowboys also called up quarterback Kellen Moore from the practice squad.

Free agents Matt Flynn, Josh Johnson, Christian Ponder and McLeod Bethel-Thompson all worked out for the team, but Dallas thought it would be better to trade for Cassel, who was beat out by Tyrod Taylor for the starting spot in Buffalo.

Rapoport also noted that the Cowboys do not plan on starting Cassel on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, but it will be a good QB battle until Romo returns.
