On Wednesday, it was reported by Robert Murray that the Boston Red Sox are close to extending the contract of SP Nathan Eovaldi. Within the rumor mill, the deal is expected to be four years, worth $17M annually. After an amazing season that finished with a World Series title, the Red Sox are prepared to lock up Eovaldi for the foreseeable future.

Eovaldi has played as part of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Miami Marlins, New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays and now the Red Sox. Last season, he made 12 regular season appearances, going 3-3 while posting a 3.33 ERA.

With this extension, Eovaldi’s trade from the Rays to the Red Sox was a blessing in disguise. Heading into next season, Eovaldi will have more than enough time to prepare himself, rather than worry about an upcoming contract extension.
