Bill Foley trademarks “Las Vegas Desert Knights”

Las Vegas NHL owner Bill Foley has trademarked “Las Vegas Desert Knights”. This could possibly be the name of the newest NHL franchise, which is set to enter the league for the 2017-18 year. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, domain names for lasvegasdesertknights.com, vegasdesertknights.com, and desertknightshockey.com were all registered to Moniker Privacy Services. MPS owns the domain name for NHL.com.
The search for a name has been an extremely tough one for Foley. One possible name, “Black Knights”, has been trademarked by West Point, a military academy in West Point, New York. Even “Knights” had its share of problems. The London Knights, one of the premier junior hockey teams in Canada, has the trademark for “Knights” and blocked Vegas’ use of the name in Canada.
A few names were leaked, including “Night Hawks” and “Desert Hawks”, but Foley says that they are more back up options than primary candidates. We’ll have to wait to see if anything comes of this trademark, but one can assume that it is rather indicative.
