On Monday, the MLB world was shocked to hear that the Houston Astros received their punishment following the use of technology to cheat during the 2017 World Series.
The full details of the punishment included the suspension of General Manager Jeff Luhnow and manager AJ Hinch. In addition, the team was fined $5M and lost consecutive first and second round picks in the 2020 and 2021 MLB Draft.
Following the announcement, the Astros took it one step further. It was reported that Houston has departed from both Luhnow and Hinch following the scandal.
As a result, baseball operations are expected to be overseen by team owner Jim Crane. There are no updates at this time on who will fill the void, but the Astros have certainly taken the current situation seriously.
During his five-year tenure with the Astros, Hinch has finished with a winning record in each consecutive season.
