Chicago Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta became the first pitcher to reach 20 wins on Tuesday night as the Cubs beat the Brewers 4-0.
Arrieta would only allow three total hits during his time on the mound, striking out eleven batters. At one point in the game, Arrieta retired fourteen batters in a row, simply taking over the game.
The last Cubs pitcher to be the first to reach 20 wins? Jon Lieber in the 2001 regular season. Arrieta’s record now improves to 20-6 as the Cubs inch closer and closer to a playoff berth.
The Cubs sit ten games ahead of the San Fransisco Giants for the second wild card spot in the NL. The Cubs also only trail the Pittsburgh Pirates by two games to take that top spot in the wild card.
