In March, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Nick Foles agreed to a four-year, $88M deal. With over $50M guaranteed at the time, this marked an era in which the Jaguars may have begun to be viewed as elite competition in the AFC South.
However, that has not been the case.
On Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jacksonville elected to bench Foles in favor of Gardner Minshew. Foles finished the game 7-of-14 with 93 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT, and two lost fumbles. The Jaguars proceeded to lose the game by a score of 25-3.
Minshew was clearly the better quarterback in Week 13, finishing 16-of-27 with 147 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT.
This season has not been favorable to Foles, who was forced to miss extensive time due to a broken collarbone. This begs the question whether Foles is the legitimate answer in Jacksonville, or whether Minshew Mania gives the team the best chance at finding success.
