Andrew Luck Receives Mega-Contract Extension

As of Wednesday, the Indianapolis Colts and quarterback Andrew Luck have agreed to a contract extension. The deal will be worth six years and roughly $125 million.

Before this deal was made, the highest paid quarterbacks such as Aaron Rodgers and Joe Flacco were making roughly $22 million a year. With Luck’s deal on the table, he is easily the highest paid player in the NFL. Through his first three years of his new deal, the Colts will owe Luck a whopping $75 million.

“This is an exciting day for the organization and Colts fans around the globe,” Irsay said. “Andrew is the consummate professional, possesses extraordinary talent and is our leader on and off the field. When you consider what this team has accomplished in four seasons with Andrew under center, you cannot help but be thrilled about the future.”

Last season, Luck missed nine regular season games for the Colts due to injury. In his seven starts, he threw 15 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

In his first three seasons in the NFL, Luck has been able to bring the Colts franchise to the postseason every time. This may be where the Colts seek this value in Luck. Although Luck has never been to a Super Bowl, he has been able to carry the pressure on his shoulders very well.

Drafted first overall in the 2012 NFL Draft, Luck has made himself into a household name. With 101 passing TDs, 14,838 passing yards, and an 85.0 QBR, there is no ceiling for this young stud.

When healthy, Luck will see lots of success in the future. Were the Colts crazy to hand Luck this type of money? They could have let Luck play into his option and made this a contract year, but they have shown long-term investment into Andrew Luck.
