Amar’e Stoudemire Retiring After 14 NBA Seasons

Amar’e Stoudemire has announced his retirement after 14 NBA Seasons. Stoudemire is a former Rookie of the Year, but primarily rose to fame due to his amazing dunks. He has played for the Suns, Knicks, Mavericks, and Heat during his career, but he spent his prime on the Suns where he was the star. He last played for the Heat, but signed ceremonial contract with the Knicks so he could retire with the Knicks franchise. Stoudemire sent out this statement:

“I want to thank Mr. Dolan, Phil Jackson and Steve Mills for signing me so I can officially retire as a New York Knick, I came to New York in 2010 to help revitalize this franchise and we did just that. Although my career has taken me to other places around the country, my heart has always remained in the Big Apple.”

Amar’e was a 6 time NBA All-Star, 1 time NBA-All Team, 4 time NBA- All Second Team, Rookie of the Year, and NBA All-Rookie First Team during his 14 year career. He was taken with the 9th overall pick in the 2002 draft by the Phoenix Suns. He spent 8 seasons with the Suns, then 4 and 1/2 seasons with the Knicks, 1/2 season with the Mavericks, the one season with the Heat.

He played 52 games with the Heat last year. He averaged 15 minutes per game, while averaging 5.8 PPG and 4.3 RPG. This previous season was the only season he averaged under 10 PPG, however Stoudemire will be loved and remembered by all for his breathtaking plays and his love for the game.
