Allen Returns From Suspension After One Game 

After Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski noted in December that Grayson Allen would be “suspended indefinitely for tripping opponents”, we found out on Wednesday night that the indefinite suspension seemed to only last one game. 

The second-leading scorer for Duke missed the opener against Virginia Tech, in which the team lost 89-75 in Allen’s absence. Coach K described the three different incidents as “unexplainable and inexcusable”, yet he was the one that let Allen off the hook for his actions. 

In Allen’s return against Georgia Tech, he posted 15 points and 7 assists, shooting 3-5 from the field. Allen would score twice from three-point range, as well as seven free throws. 

Did Duke really need Allen? Considering Duke won the game 110-57, I’m going to go with the theory that Krzyzewski let Allen play based on his fear of dropping two of the first three regular season games. 

In the 2015-16 season, Allen averaged 21.6 ppg, as well as 36.6 mpg. Allen is a huge part of the Duke program, and considering it’s his junior year with the university, it’s safe to say that Allen needs every minute he can on the court this season in order to improve his NBA draft stock. 

Should Allen have played? Of course not, but that’s not the point of college basketball. The difference between college and pros is that every win in the regular season matters for college sports, because your ranking is based on who you beat within the regular season.
