The Padres have just signed one of the better shortstops in the game when he is on, Alexei Ramirez. The 34-year old has been a membe of the White Sox for each of 7 seasons in MLB. He has his fair share of accolades.

In 2014, he came of the bench in the 2014 All Star Game, replacing Derek Jeter for what was his last All Star Game. He also has 2 AL Silver Sluggers, one in 2010 and 2014. The Padres were also rumored to be after Ian Desmond.

In the end, they go after Ramirez on a 1 year deal, that works for both parties. The Padres receive a great shortstop at what could be a bargain for them, as the contract isn’t expected to be too rich, considering Ramirez had an off year last season and is also getting up there in age.

However, Ramirez could restore his value by having a better season then he has in 2015 in which he had a .249 batting average, which was a career low for him. One thing you can count on, is his solid defense. He pulled away with a .977 FPCT. It will be interesting to see how things unfold for the shortstop in the upcoming 2016 season.
