Alex Rodriguez To Be Released
The complicated part about this news involves A-Rod’s contract, as he is due $21 million this season as well as $21 next season.
If a player retires, they usually leave the money on the table, but there may be a twist in this release. According to multiple sources, the two sides have come to an agreement that’ll apparently “help the Yankees re-build and pay the younger talent”.
Though he is known as one of the most controversial stars the MLB has ever seen, A-Rod turned himself into a household name.
Drafted with the number one overall pick in the 1993 MLB Draft, Rodriguez made his debut in the big leagues when he was only 18 years old.
After a long 22 seasons for the veteran, Rodriguez ranks 4th in homeruns (696), 20th in hits (3,114), and 30th in doubles (547).
He may be remembered as an individual who earned his glory with the use of PED’s, but that doesn’t take away the fact that he became a 14-time All-Star, three-time MVP, and one-time World Series Champion.
What is next for the third baseman? Obviously he will be an advisor with the Yankees for now, but he has also mentioned his interest in being a manager someday. Best of luck to A-Rod and his future.
