With the Los Angeles Kings on a downward spiral this season, the team has elected to move on from Alec Martinez. On Wednesday, the team traded Martinez to the Vegas Golden Knights for a 2020 2nd round pick and a 2021 2nd round pick. Martinez is signed through the 2021 season with a $4M cap hit.
In 2015, the team gave Martinez a new contract worth $24 million for six years; and in the past few seasons, it came back to bite them as his production on the ice declined. Despite everything, Martinez left his mark by helping Los Angeles win two Stanley Cups and having the game winner in double overtime of game five in the Stanley Cup Finals during the 2013-14 season.
