AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling will be putting on their first joint PPV card ever on Sunday. Injuries have put some dents on the card, as they have in all of wrestling. Forbidden Door will be on PPV or available on Bleacher Report for purchase, with the event beginning at 8pm EST.
The Buy In: The Gunn Club (Billy, Colton, and Austin) and Max Caster vs. Yuya Uemura, Alex Coughlin, The DKC, and Kevin Knight
This will be your typical Heel versus Face eight-man tag with some of the LA Dojo’s best going up against Billy Gunn and his offspring, along with the Acclaimed’s Max Caster. Only recently Caster has been teaming with the Gunn Club ever since his partner Anthony Bowens got injured. It is safe to say that the LA Dojo group is used to working together given their training history, while Caster and the Gunn Club are fairly new to this.
Prediction: Yuya Uemura, Alex Coughlin, The DKC, and Kevin Knight
The Buy In: Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee vs. El Desperado and Yoshinobu Kanemaru
One of the most recent additions to the card as we witness a mismatch with Keith Lee over both Kanemaru and Desperado and a random addition to the card.
Prediction: Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland
The Buy In: QT Marshall and Aaron Solo vs. Hirooki Goto and Yoshi-Hashi
The final match on the Buy In is another seemingly thrown together Match as CHAOS’s Hirooki Goto and Yoshi-Hashi face off with QT Marshall and Aaron Solo. Nothing more than a filler match here just to warm up the crowd.
Prediction: Hirooki Goto and Yoshi-Hashi
IWGP United States Championship: Will Ospreay (c) vs. Orange Cassidy
This is a match that has received mixed feelings due to Orange Cassidy’s usual “lazy” comedy gimmick during matches, but we have seen him be completely serious in the past. The gimmick is often used to bait his opponent prior to engaging in a fast-paced plan of attack. Ospreay is one of the best in the world and I believe this dynamic is going to shock fans in a positive manner this weekend.
Prediction: Will Ospreay
The Young Bucks and The Bullet Club (El Phantasmo and Hikuleo) vs. Darby Allin, Sting, and Los Inglobernables De Japon (Hiromu Takahashi and Shingo Takagi)
The Young Bucks return to the Bullet Club with Hikuleo and El Phantasmo battling against an interesting team of Sting and Darby Allin along with the Powerhouse Shingo Takagi and the wild and unpredictable Hiromu Takahashi. Sting and Allin have recently begun a feud with the Undisputed Elite and LIJ has always been with the Bullet Club in New Japan.
Prediction: Sting, Darby Allin, Hiromu Takahashi, and Shingo Takagi
Zack Sabre Jr. Vs. A Mystery Opponent chosen by Bryan Danielson
This was sadly originally supposed to be Sabre Jr going up against Danielson, which would have been an incredible match. However, Danielson is injured and will miss the big show. He has found a replacement and has claimed it is a new signing to the AEW roster and a new member of the Blackpool Combat Club. There is speculation that it could be one of Claudio Castagnoli (Cesaro), Johnny Gargano, or Johnathan Gresham (ROH World Champion).
Prediction: Danielson’s handpicked mystery opponent
AEW Women’s World Championship: Thunder Rosa (c) vs. Toni Storm
The only match on the card that is not involving an AEW-NJPW dynamic is the Women’s Championship match. These two have had each other’s back over the past few weeks in saving each other from attacks by Marina Shafir and Nyla Rose. However, this Sunday will be for all the marbles.
Prediction: Thunder Rosa
Winner Take All Match for the ROH and IWGP World Tag Team Championships: FTR (c) vs. The United Empire (The Great O’Khan and Jeff Cobb) (c) vs. Roppongi Vice
This all started when O’Khan and Cobb interfered during FTR and Vice’s ROH Tag Title match and took everyone out. Since then it has been all-out warfare. FTR and Roppongi Vice have been on the same page as of late to battle United Empire, but this Sunday they know what’s at stake.
Prediction: FTR
Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, and Minoru Suzuki vs. Eddie Kingston, Shota Umino, and Wheeler Yuta
The Jericho and Kingston feud continues at Forbidden Door as Kingston’s team with Wheeler Yuta and New Japan’s Shota Umino take on the reunited Le Sex God’s in Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara along with New Japan’s Minoru Suzuki. This is a small preview of the Blood and Guts Match that will occur on Wednesday on Dynamite, obviously without the double ring and steel cage.
Prediction: Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, and Minoru Suzuki
AEW Inaugural All-Atlantic Championship: Miro vs. PAC vs. Malakai Black vs. Clark Connors
We all know PAC and Black will be focused on each other with their ongoing feud, but does that distract them and lead to Miro or Ishii to take the belt? Connors is the only NJPW representative in this match, as the other three are all AEW talent. Tomohiro Ishii was originally supposed to be the NJPW representative, but injured his leg and cannot compete.
Prediction: PAC
IWGP World Heavyweight Championship: Jay White (c) vs. Hangman Adam Page vs. Kazuchicka Okada vs. Adam Cole
This should be a barnburner, as it all started when Adam Cole invited Jay White to AEW a few months ago. White recently won the IWGP Heavyweight title from Okada in Japan and Cole felt he was the rightful contender for the Championship instead. This past Wednesday on Dynamite, White and Cole were attacking Page before the sound of the coin drop. In that moment, Kazuchicka Okada made his AEW debut and saved Page. Shortly after, this fatal four-way match was made official.
Prediction: Jay White
Interim AEW World Heavyweight Championship: Jon Moxley vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi
The match was originally going to be CM Punk against Hiroshi Tanahashi for the title, but with CM Punk’s injury, an interim champion needs to be crowned. The winner of this match will eventually face Punk to crown the undisputed AEW Champion. With Tanahashi defeating Hirooki Goto at Dominion and Jon Moxley beating Kyle O’Reilly on Dynamite, both men have earned their way into this much-anticipated main event.
Prediction: Jon Moxley
