First reported by Brett Okamoto of ESPN, the UFC has officially scheduled an interim Middleweight title fight between Kelvin Gastelum and Israel Adesanya for UFC 236 on April 13th. With Robert Whittaker’s timetable still uncertain, it’s the right call to make.
Gastelum was scheduled to fight Whittaker at UFC 234, but due to Whittaker being pulled out due to an injury, the fight was cancelled. In result, the main event was Adesanya facing off against the returning Anderson Silva in which Adesanya won by unanimous decision.
Adesanya is currently undefeated with a record of 16-0. Coming off a win against the greatest middleweight fighter of all-time is a huge boost to his legacy.
