A-Rod Continues to Impress
Alex Rodriguez has been nothing short of spectacular this season, something no one would have predicted. Playing against the Minnesota Twins, the Yankees would look to expand their lead in the AL East.
The Yankees found themselves in the hole quickly 5-0, highlighted by a 3-run shot by Twins’ outfielder Tori Hunter. The Yankees would then bounce back with shots of their own; including three from Rodriguez.
Rodriguez would become the 5th oldest baseball player in MLB history to have three homeruns in a single game at 39 years, 363 days old (trailing Musial, Giambi, Reggie Jackon and Babe Ruth). Although he has had a troubled past when it comes to honesty, the stats this year speak for themselves as A-Rod has placed himself in a leadership type of role.
Is Rodriguez the backbone of this organization? Pitcher C.C. Sabathia claims he saw this coming from a mile away;
“I watched him watch the video [of Perkins] and kind of knew he was going to swing at the first pitch. He hit it out.”
The Yankees now hold a 5.5 game lead in the AL East, in hopes of ending their “playoff-less” drought in the 2015 season. Could this be the year? It’s too early to tell but the Yankees look as good as ever.
