A-Rod Continues to Decline, Yankees Paying the Price
Over the course of the last two days, New York Yankees Third Baseman Alex Rodriguez has not seen any time in the field. Rodriguez has continued to slip up this season in terms of hitting, which is surprising considering his 2015 campaign was so impressive.
The soon-to-be 41-year old is hitting a mere .223/.264/.398 with eight homers and 26 RBIs in 44 games this season. Against righties, his stats drop down even more at a .200/.236/.348.
With all this being said, Rodriguez doesn’t even play full-time at DH, he is only a part-time player. With the cost of $21 million this season, this is no where close to what the Yankees hoped for from their veteran leader.
“It’s a hard decision,” manager Joe Girardi told MLB.com. “Alex has mean’t a lot to this club over the years. Right now we’re going to do something a little bit different and see how it works. It’s an ongoing choice. He’ll be back in there [Tuesday vs. Rangers left-hander Cole Hamels], but it’s an ongoing choice that we’ll look at on a daily basis.”
With the Yankees management and fans losing hope in Rodriguez, would they even consider dropping him? For me, I’d personally never take a cap hit that big for releasing Rodriguez, as he is also set to make another $21 million next season.
According to Yankees GM Brian Cashman, he stated he has had “zero consideration” about potentially releasing A-Rod.
“There’s a lot of baseball to be played, and you haven’t heard the last of me,” Rodriguez told the New York Daily News. “I’m looking forward to when my number is called to come back and be very productive. I’ve always enjoyed proving people wrong.”
