The news broke on Friday night that the UFC has booked two interim title fights for their PPV event on April 23th, UFC 236. Israel Adesanya and Kelvin Gastelum will be fighting for the interim UFC Middleweight title, while UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier will enter a rematch for the interim Lightweight title.

Poirier has been on a streak of victories over talented fighters such as Jim Miller, Anthony Pettis, Justin Gaethje and Eddie Alvarez. That alone has given Poirier enough of a resume to be challenging for the title.

Holloway fought Poirier in his debut with the UFC. The fight was won by Poirier, and now Holloway is looking to avenge the loss and become the 4th simultaneous double champion in UFC history.

Poirier is on a mission to finally win UFC gold, while Holloway is looking to destroy the journey that Poirier has been on for the past few years.

Whoever wins will have busy hands down the road with Khabib Nurmagomedov, who is currently suspended until November. This interim title fight keeps the division busy for when he is able to return.
