If you were excited for the long streaks that were broken in Week 2, you must have loved some of the results from Week 3. Wisconsin lost to a nonconference opponent at home for the first time since 2003, a streak of 41 games. North Texas defeated an SEC opponent on the field for the first time since 1975 (victories against Mississippi State in 1976 and 1977 count as forfeits), Syracuse defeated Florida State for the first time since 1966; and the last time Kansas won two straight against FBS opponents was 2008. In one of the more anticipated games of the week, LSU used a last-second field goal to break Auburn’s streak of 13 straight home wins. While there was no shortage of exciting Week 3 games, some players stood out above the rest. Members of The Athletes Hub NCAA staff put together their stars for Week 3 in the 2018 college football season.

Brian’s 3 Stars

1. Alan Bowman, QB, Texas Tech

43/59, 605 Yds, 5 TD’s

The offense that Texas Tech runs makes it easy to have a successful quarterback, and true freshman Alan Bowman became the fifth QB in school history to have a 600 yard game in a thrilling 63-49 win against Houston. Bowman is currently fourth in the NCAA with 1,160 yards on the season, and it would be smart to bet on him staying in the top 10 for the remainder of the season. As usual, Texas Tech will likely be in a lot of shootouts this season, so they will need Bowman to keep leading them to the 55.7 points per game they’re averaging so far.

2. Olamide Zaccheaus, HB/WR, Virginia

9 Rec, 247 Yds, 2 TD’s

Officially listed on the team website as a running back, Zaccheaus was deadly for Virginia at receiver this week in their 45-31 win over Ohio, which was played at Vanderbilt Stadium in Nashville due to concerns over Hurricane Florence. He set the school record with 247 receiving yards, which included touchdowns of 86 and 77 yards. With only 36 receptions to go until he breaks the school record, Zaccheaus will look to add to his total next week against Louisville.

3. Nick Fitzgerald, QB, Mississippi State

14/21, 243 Yds, 2 TD’s; 15 Att, 107 Yds, 4 TD’s

There have always been doubters of Fitzgerald’s passing ability, but he showed what he can do in his teams 56-10 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette. He was more efficient and calm in the pocket than he was against Kansas State last week, and was able to contribute 350 total yards and 6 TD’s in the Bulldogs winning efforts. Fitzgerald is a top tier QB in the loaded SEC and will need more games like this if Mississippi State hopes to make the Playoff.

1. Alan Bowman, QB, Texas Tech

This was nowhere near a primetime game unless you lived in Texas, but Bowman showed up and showed out. 605 yards are video game numbers, along with a 72% completion rating. No idea if he’ll put up these kind of numbers again, but the freshman quarterback is off to a good start.

2. Darrell Henderson, RB, Memphis

14 Att , 233 Yds, 2 TD’s

Henderson was the top running back for Week 3 with 233 yards and 2 TD’s. He has been able to amass over 200 yards in the last two games. With easy performances against Navy and Georgia State, Henderson should be able to continue put up top performances against South Alabama, Tulane and UCONN.

3. Olamide Zaccheaus, RB/WR, Virginia

There is typically a Wide Receiver in this spot but Zaccheaus’ performance was better than any receiver. With a name that sounds like it comes straight out of the bible, he put on a heavenly performance against Ohio. Zaccheaus was 105 yards away from breaking 1,000 yards in 2017, do I sense another Alvin Kamara?
