Going into 2020 the season, the AFC East is one of the most interesting divisions in sports. Over the last two decades, it has been dominated by the New England Patriots. However, with Tom Brady gone, the division is more open than ever before.

4. New York Jets

Trading Jamal Adams didn’t get hopes up that the Jets will be ready to compete for a division title this season. This team is held by players that need to take the next step; notably quarterback Sam Darnold. While having multiple first round picks over the next two years will help them build a team ready to compete, it won’t come immediately.

3. Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins are coming off a year where they managed to surpass expectations, and an offseason where they seem to have improved leaps and bounds. Even with Tua Tagovailoa not starting under center, the team has a promising roster to go with their promising head coach in Brian Flores. This comes as a result of the acquisition of a number of quality players such as the aforementioned Tagovailoa, as well as cornerback Byron Jones. While inexperience may ultimately hold them back from truly competing for the division in 2020, expect Miami to remain competitive.

2. New England Patriots

New England is having quite the offseason, but not in a positive manner. While some may rejoice over the loss of Tom Brady, that doesn’t mean New England is just going away. Head coach Bill Belichick may have players opting out, but he is known for getting the most of his players. With a newly-acquired Cam Newton Belichick will have a competent quarterback behind center running his scheme. While they may not be able to overcome all of their losses from players opting out, they will compete for the AFC East title.

1. Buffalo Bills

With much of New England’s talent gone this year, Buffalo has a clear shot at the division title. As the most talented team in the AFC East on paper, they could become a contender across the entire conference. Following a very solid offseason which included the acquisition of Stefon Diggs, all the Bills need is for quarterback Josh Allen to take the next step as an elite signal caller.
