It was a brilliant main event on Monday Night RAW, as Finn Balor got his rematch for the Universal Championship after more than two years in waiting against the defending champion Roman Reigns. With the match coming to a close, Braun Strowman came out and stalked his way down to the ring. After dropkicking Reigns, Balor attempted his Coupe de Grace, but Reigns rolled out from underneath. Later running into a spear, Reigns picked up the eventual victory.

After being confronted and taken out by Strowman afterwards, Strowman then cashed in his Money in the Bank contract, waiting for Reigns to drag himself up by the ropes.

The rest, as they say, is history. The Shield has reunited officially, essentially ensuring that Roman Reigns will have the Universal Championship for a long time to come. A Shield reunion was something that we didn’t think we wanted, with Seth Rollins battling candidly for the Intercontinental Championship while Dean Ambrose is coming back from injury. It brings a welcome change to the main event picture, but does Roman Reigns really need his Shield brothers at his side?

It brings a fresh change to the main event. Some of the best work that Roman Reigns has done was when he didn’t need a stick to talk, as he let his in-ring work do the talking for him. Rollins would do all the talking, Ambrose would let his body language scream a thousand promos, and Reigns would be the muscle for The Shield.

We may see plenty of tag-team matches to finish off RAW against more varied opponents. For example, Finn Balor is starting to push his way back into the main event scene, and this past Monday we saw the team of Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler slide into a six-man tag.

Roman Reigns has conquered Hall of Fame wrestlers time and time again in recent history. He defeated The Undertaker at WrestleMania, as well as the man who broke The Undertaker’s streak in Brock Lesnar. The fans just won’t take a bar of him when you have other factors such as Finn Balor, Braun Strowman and his Shield brothers.

Roman Reigns will need help to keep the title. He may have gotten over Lesnar, but Strowman is a different tale. When needed, Strowman has dismantled opponents to get to his preferred position. With Rollins and Ambrose at the side of Reigns, he very well may be unstoppable in the ring for the time being.
