In recent years, the most premium position has had the most questions heading into the draft; 2017 will be no exception. The said position is, of course, quarterback where two of the best three ranked quarterbacks in this draft are known for probably having high ceilings and low floors. The three are Mitch Trubisky of North Carolina, Deshaun Watson of Clemson, and DeShone Kizer of Notre Dame.
Between the three on paper, Watson blows the other two out statistically. As far as playing in a pro system is seems Trubisky is best suited, Kizer, however, is the most physically gifted. All three are viewed as possible premium players and would be a valuable asset to any team lucky to snag them.
The rankings consistently have Trubisky as the first ranked quarterback with Watson and Kizer interchanging the second and third position. They’re being ranked based on their floors as Trubisky’s floor is quite high and Watson and Kizer’s are quite low. The ceilings are the complete opposite, and a team taking Trubisky over the other two could regret it. Watson and Kizer could both grow to be far better than Trubisky if all reach their ceiling. If they all hit their floor, Watson and Kizer will be the busts, and Trubisky could still be solid, a starter on some teams or a successful backup.
To most, it depends on the team and system each guy land in. All three could possibly go in the first round, which only makes pressure higher. It’s almost in stone that all three will be gone before the third round comes around.
We can watch the tape, look at the intangibles, watch the combine but these guys and the team that drafts them controls their future. A good quarterback coach and great work ethic can make he difference. These guys can prove us right or wrong; but who will ultimately have the best career? I want to hear your thoughts, comment below!
