As many people know, the New England Patriots are one of, if not the best, teams in the league. They have loads and loads of depth, but the problem is that you can’t keep all of the depth. So, today I will be projecting players that will make the team and players that will not.
Tom Brady, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Jacoby Brissett.
No cuts as Jacoby Brissett will be Garoppolo’s backup for the first four games.
Dion Lewis, Legarrette Blount, Donald Brown, James White, Tyler Gaffney, Joey Iosefa, Brandon Bolden, and DJ Foster.
I believe Blount, Brown, and Iosefa will be cut. Blount has been way too inconsistent and if Gaffney keeps up his performance, he might take Blount’s job. Brown has been struggling with injuries, and Iosefa is also extremely inconsistent.
Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, Chris Hogan, Malcolm Mitchell, Aaron Dobson, Nate Washington, Devin Lucien, Deandre Carter, Chris Harper, Matthew Slater, and Keshawn Martin.
I believe Lucien, Washington, and Harper will be cut. Lucien is a talented wideout and I am a personal fan of him. However, with the competition ahead of him he will be cut or be sent to Practice squad. Nate Washington is a talented wideout but he has only practiced a few times with the Pats and if he isn’t getting the system down he will be cut. Chris Harper is another player I am a fan of but he has a very tough road to make the roster.
Rob Gronkowski, Martellus Bennett, AJ Derby, Clay Harbor, Steven Scheu, and Bryce Williams
I believe that Scheu and Harbor will be released.
Steven Scheu has a very tough challenge ahead of him as the third tight end spot is a race between four players. AJ Derby had a great preseason game vs the Saints. Clay Harbor is a versatile tight end that can also play fullback, but he hasn’t really performed all that well so he likely will not make the 53 man roster.
Nate Solder, Sebastian Vollmer, Cameron Fleming, Marcus Cannon, LaAdrian Waddle, and Keavon Milton
I believe that Milton and Cannon will be released.
Milton has a very small chance to make the roster due to depth at OT and Marcus Cannon is a very inconsistent player.
Joe Thuney, Josh Kline, Shaq Mason, Tre Jackson, Ted Karras, Chris Barker, Jon Halapio, and Kyler Kerbyson.
I believe Kerbyson, Halapio, Kline, and Barker will be released.
Kerbyson, Halapio, and Barker all have very tough roads ahead of them as they have to fight extremely hard just to be third string but they will probably be released. Josh Kline has been inconsistent throughout his career.
David Andrews, Bryan Stork
Jabaal Sheard, Rob Ninkovich, Chris Long, Trey Flowers, Geneo Grissom
Geneo Grissom will be released
Malcom Brown, Alan Branch, Terrance Knighton, Vincent Valentine, Markus Kuhn, Joe Vellano, Woodrow Hamilton, Anthony Johnson, and Frank Kearse.
I believe Kearse, Kuhn, Johnson, Hamilton, and Vellano will be released.
All of them will be fighting hard just to even make it on the team but unfortunately these 5 will not make it.
Jamie Collins, Dont’a Hightower, Rufus Johnson, Kamu Grugier- Hill, Ramon Humber, Elandon Roberts, Jonathan Freeny, Shea McClellin, and Kevin Snyder.
I believe that Johnson, Humber, and Snyder will be released.
Rufus Johnson has talent to be a great rusher off the edge but with the depth on the Pats he has a long way to go. Ramon Humber likely won’t make it due to competition, and Kevin Snyder is a camp body.
Malcolm Butler, Logan Ryan, Cyrus Jones, Justin Coleman, Jonathan Jones, Cre’Von LeBlanc, Darryl Roberts, EJ Biggers, and V’Angelo Bentley
I believe that Biggers and Justin Coleman will be released from the team. Justin Coleman has struggled badly and EJ Biggers will likely be cut due to below average performance in a tight competition.
Devin McCourty, Patrick Chung, Jordan Richards, Duron Harmon, Nate Ebner, Brock Vereen, Cedric Thompson, and Brandon King.
I believe that Cedric Thompson and Brock Vereen will be released as they are in a very tough competition right now.
DJ Foster, Deandre Carter, Ted Karras, Cre’Von LeBlanc, Bryce Williams, V’Angelo Bentley, Keshawn Martin, Darryl Roberts, Elandon Roberts, and Cameron Fleming.
