According to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski, free agent shooting guard, Dwyane Wade will be signing with the Chicago Bulls. The deal is for two years worth $47 million. Wade is coming off playing for Miami Heat and has ever since entering the league in 2003. Wade won three NBA championships with the Heat in 2006, 2012, and 2013. In order to make room for Wade, the team have traded Mike Dunleavy to the Cleveland Cavaliers and have also traded Jose Calderon to the Los Angeles Lakers.
While in Miami, Wade formed a big three with LeBron James and Chris Bosh which lasted from 2010-2014. The trio ended when James was a free agent and decided to go back to the team that drafted him, signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
In 74 games played last season, Wade averaged 19.0 points per game, 4.6 assists per game, and 4.1 rebounds per game. Last season Wade played a big role in helping the Heat make the playoffs. The team made it to the second round only to get eliminated by the Toronto Raptors losing the series 4 games to 3.
Wade is a great player. He has a great shot, a great scorer in the paint, and is great defensively, as well as offensively. Wade is a type of player that can average 20 plus points a season, even though he is past his prime. He is also a great leader on the court and in the locker room, so he will make an impact even when he is not the floor. Wade is also a solid passer, being able to find an open teammate at any time.
This is a great signing by the Bulls. The team is getting a great veteran guard in Wade that can still produce good numbers at the age of 34. The team signed point guard Rajon Rondo just a few days ago, so signing Wade gives the team a big 3 with the combination of Rondo, Wade and Jimmy Butler. Wade could also be a mentor to Butler, which could be very helpful in the long run. The is not a long term deal, so that is another bright side to this.
On the Wade side of things, this is a homecoming for him since he was born in Chicago. Being able to play for his hometown team may have been a big reason why Wade signed with them. With the team paying him $47 million, Wade will have to prove that is worth the money that the team is paying him. With the numbers Wade has been producing, he should have no problem proving that he is worth it.
With the signing of Wade, the team has been making strides to making some serious impact in the Eastern Conference this upcoming season. With a solid point guard in Rondo, a young superstar in Butler, adding in a veteran guard in Wade, and with solid bench production, there is a good chance that the team will be making the playoffs this upcoming season. With the improvements that other teams in the East has made this offseason along with the Bulls, the East will be interesting to watch this upcoming season.
