NBA Trade deadline has come and gone, big names like Dwight Howard Kevin Love and Al Horford were not traded. There were still some trades that happened on deadline day. Phoenix Suns traded Markieff Morris to Washington Wizards for DeJuan Blair, Kris Humphries, and a 2016 first round pick.
In 37 games played this season, Morris averaged 11.6 points, 5.2 rebounds 2.4 assist and 0.5 steals per game. In a losing season for Suns, it was obvious that Morris was not happy there, but he still put up some solid numbers averaging double digit points.
Washington is getting an absolute upgrade at power forward with this trade. Morris will be a upgrade from Jared Dudley. The team is in 9th place right now and is a few games out of the final 8th playoff spot. So there is still a chance the team makes the playoffs. Morris will be able to make an impact, now that he is on a team that has a chance of going into the playoffs.
Morris is a guy that can score up to 10 points per game, good shooter, good rebounder, and a good defender. The team has been dealing with so many injuries this season, so there is a better chance that the team misses the playoffs then make the playoffs. Luckily for the team the eastern conference is really weak this season compared to the western conference.
Phoenix finally gets rid of Morris, who has been a headache to the franchise ever since the team traded his brother Marcus Morris to Detroit. The team is not getting a lot back for Morris player wise. Blair is really nothing special, Humphries is a good veteran depth scorer but not someone who could make a huge impact.
The good thing about this deal is the team gets a first round pick out of this deal, that could turn out into something if the Wizards do not make the playoffs. The pick could even be a top 10 pick if the Wizards fall even more down in the standings, but expect the pick to be in the top 15. The team is a rebuilding right now, so they need to get all the draft picks that the team can acquire right now.
This is a trade that works out for both teams. Wizards are getting a good young power forward, who is an upgrade over who the team had starting at the position before the deal went down. Morris could help the team in the push to the playoffs in a weak eastern conference.
While the Suns get rid of a distraction in Morris, and got rid of a some salary cap off the books with getting rid of his contract. The team did not get any good players that could make a impact right now. What is important for the team with this deal is, the fact that the team get another first round pick to go along with the teams own first round pick which will help in the rebuilding process.
