Contract Talks Between Redskins and Kirk Cousins have “broken off”

At around 1pm central time on February 16th, it was reported by Adam Schefter that the Redskins and QB kirk Cousins have ended talks and no more talks were planned. This is shocking for many as the Redskins have struggled with the QB spot ever since RGIII got injured the very first time in his NFL career. That hole was seemed to be filled with Cousins, who was their starting QB all season. He started off slow, but after the trade deadline, Cousins played (statically) better than any other QB in the league. He even lead the Skins to the playoffs.

Reports suggest that Cousins wanted too much money, but some people think overpaying him would be well worth it, especially with his post Week 9 play and him leading them to the playoffs. However, as some assumed, he will not being testing free agency. It is instead believed that Cousins will get the franchise tag from the Redskins. The tag binds the player to the team for one year if certain conditions are met. This would give the Redskins another year to see if he is worth a big contract or not. However, the chance of Cousins testing free agency is still there, if he chooses that route.
