How to Fix the NFC East: Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles had a disappointing season. While 7-9 isn’t the worst record, they had many games they could have and should have won. However, the players cannot be blamed for this. Chip Kelly and his lack of ability to make the correct calls in-game hurt this team, but it can be fixed.

OFFENSE

  • Get a QB– The Eagles need a quarterback. Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez do not cut it in the NFL nowadays. They need a legitimate QB, and if they choose to get one from the free agency they have options. Two good options would be Ryan Fitzpatrick or Brock Osweiler. If they want to draft one then Connor Cook, Dak Prescott, Jacob Coker, or Cardale Jones are all good options.
  • Get a RB– The Eagles finished with 1743 rushing yards and while this isn’t bad, this was an off year for rushing. With many elite RB’s out there, they need a good rushing attack next season or they will be shut down very quick. Doug Martin and Matt Forte will be free agents, making them good options if they decide to go down the speed back path. If they choose to go a more power back path, then Chris Ivory will be there to sign. Of course you can always draft a RB and Derrick Henry screams power back, however he may be gone by the time the Eagles get to draft. In that case, Devontae Booker of Utah will be a good option.

DEFENSE

  • Shut Down the Run– The Eagles were last in defending the run. This all starts with the D-Line. This will take a combination of drafting and signing free agents. This is how you need to build your D-Line. You sign Malik Jackson or Muhammad Wilkerson, and draft A’Shawn Robinson. That way you have a great veteran and a rookie that was amazing in college. Then you can fill the remaining spot on the D-Line with someone that isn’t a big name. Or you can avoid all of this and make your own players step up.
  • Shut Down the Pass Attack– The Eagles ranked 28th in defending the pass. That’s pathetic, and while injuries did play a factor, that is no excuse for being 28th in defending it. Options are there to fix it. Josh Norman at the CB position and Eric Berry at the Safety position would be amazing. However, bringing in both is a long stretch, so if you had to pick one Josh Norman is probably your best bet. Eric Berry is amazing, but he is getting there in age. Yet if Josh Norman gets resigned, then Eric Berry is your best choice.

Every team has it’s potential. With some money spent and a step up of current talent, the Eagles aren’t far off from winning their division. With 2-3 games off from winning it this year, the Eagles can do it. They just have to have a smart offseason.
