OHL Blockbuster involves Flyers First Round Pick Konecny

The Ottawa 67s and Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League have pulled off a major trade involving Philadelphia Flyers first round pick Travis Konecny.

The 67s traded Konecny and forward Sam Studnicka to the Sting for forwards Sasha Chmelevski and Chase Campbell, Second round picks in 2016, 2017, 2019, Third round picks in 2017, 2019, 2020, Fifth round picks in 2017, 2019, and Conditional second-round picks in 2021, 2022. The conditional picks are dependant on whether or not Konecny plays in the OHL next year.

This was Konecny’s third season with the 67s. He was second on the team in scoring with nine goals and 45 points. He’s played 152 games with the 67s since being taken #1 overall in the 2013 OHL Draft. In those games, he’s tallied 62 goals and 121 assists.

Studnicka, 20, was in his second season with the 67s and fifth in the OHL overall. He’s racked up 44 goals and 52 assists in 228 OHL games.

In return, the 67s received Chmelevski, who is a 16 year old rookie from Michigan and the 10th overall pick in the 2015 OHL Draft, and Campbell, 17, who was a third round pick in the 2014 OHL Draft. Chmelevski has 17 points in 29 games this season and Campbell, who plays more of a checking role, has a pair of goals.

Chmelevski and Campbell should play their first game with Ottawa on Friday when the 67’s host the Peterborough Petes, according to the team website.
