Ronda Rousey announced on Friday that she will defend her UFC Bantamweight title for a seventh time in January against former boxer Holly Holm.

This comes as a bit of a surprise as UFC President Dana White hinted that her next fight may be against Miesha Tate. Rousey won the first two bouts by submission, but by far Tate was Rousey’s toughest challenge to date.

The 33-year old, Holm (9-0), is a different kind of fighter, one that Rousey isn’t use to seeing. The former boxer is a superb striker and that ability earned her Ring Magazine’s Female fighter of the year back in 2005 and 2006.

Fighting out of New Mexico, six of her nine wins came via knockout. Rousey on Holm said the following:

“She’s the most decorated striker”. She also added that”she’s not the average chick I would fight. She’s the best striker I’ve ever fought, and striking is something I learned much later in my career.”

Rousey is no slouch when it comes to striking. It is easy to see the improvement in her stand up game fight after fight. We can imagine Holm will come out swinging and she definitely possess knockout power that Rousey has to take seriously.

With that being said, Rousey is still an overwhelming betting favorite over Holm at the moment. She will look to make it a ground match while Holm of course would like the fight to stay upright, this will give her a better opportunity to win.

This should be an interesting match, one that will draw a lot of attention.
The fight is scheduled to be the headliner of UFC 195 on January 2nd in Las Vegas. Follow @HubOfAthletes on Twitter for more information regarding this bout and much more.
