After suffering a broken jaw, New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith will be inactive for 6-10 weeks. According to head coach Todd Bowles, Smith was “sucker punched” by linebacker Ik Enemkpali.
According to ESPN, Smith will require surgery that may take place within the next couple days. Sources would go on to say that Enemkpali has been released by the team (no surprise there).
With question marks surrounding the quarterback position, it looks like it’s up to Ryan Fitzpatrick to lead the team. How will this pay off? The Jets have been inconsistent at quarterback for years now, but Fitzpatrick has been ranked one of the best backup quarterbacks in the game.
Will this be a team that can make it to the playoffs? The chances the Jets would be able to do so with Smith was unlikely, so Fitzpatrick is against the odds to say the least.
