The Arizona Cardinals have agreed to a one-year deal with free agent tight end Jermaine Gresham. The former two-time pro bowler spent his first five seasons in Cincinnati and was the Bengals 21st overall pick in 2010.
The Cardinals and Packers were believed to be the top suitors for his services. Both teams have glaring holes at the position and are currently looking to upgrade. The NFL Network first reported that Gresham met with the Packers later in the week and had passed a physical. However, on Friday, he flew out of Green Bay without a deal and signed with the Cardinals.
In March, the Bengals decided not to re-sign Gresham, therefore, making him a free agent. Cincy seems ready to hand over the starting job to former Notre Dame tight end Tyler Eifert who was the Bengals 2013 1st round pick. Eifert’s rookie season was plagued by injuries, but showed the ability to make plays and caught 39 passes for 445 yards with two touchdowns.
The 27-year old has 278 receptions for 2,722 yards and 24 scores in his NFL career. He is expected to be the Cardinals starting tight end going into this season.
