Capitals Center Nicklas Bäckström underwent hip surgery on Wednesday, and his timetable for return is questionable. Capitals officials stated the following;
“Nicklas Bäckström underwent a successful surgery on his hip on Wednesday afternoon,” the Capitals said in a statement on Thursday. “Based on the nature of this procedure we are confident that Nick should be healthy by next season”
Bäckström led the NHL with 60 assists and power-play assists (30) during the regular season. He finished with 18 goals and 78 points, while playing all 82 regular-season games. Bäckström had three goals and eight points during Washington’s two series in the NHL Playoffs.
