The N.B.A. Finals are set to kick off on June 4th in Oakland,California for game one between the Cavaliers and the Warriors . The anticipation is building for a championship series that will feature two of the best players in the game right now, Stephen Curry and Lebron James. With those marquee players set to lead their respective teams into series, the fate of the finals can ultimately rest on the availability of Warriors star Klay Thompson.
During game five of the western conference finals, Trevor Ariza bit on a pump fake and kneed Thompson in the head which quickly sent him to the floor. He was diagnosed with a ear laceration and was sent back out to play. After blood came pouring out of his ear, he was forced to exit and receive stitches.
It wasn’t until after the game that concussion symptoms had started to develop. Extensive tests done on Friday morning showed that Thompson did indeed suffer a concussion and due to the league’s concussion protocol guidelines, he will not be able to resume basketball activities until he is symptom free.
Klay Thompson, who is one half of the “Splash Brothers” had enjoyed his best season as a pro averaging a career high of 21.7 points per game while shooting a career best from behind the arc. The Warriors have players capable of stepping up in case Thompson would not be able to go, but I’m sure the team doctors and coaching staff are monitoring the situation closely.
